February 23rd 1998
Media Release:  Washington, DC

The District of Columbia Bicycle Courier Association (DCBCA) will
continue its monthly Bicycle Solidarity Ride in Washington DC on
February 27th at 6pm. These rides take place the last Friday of every
month and begin at Dupont Circle in the heart of Washington DC. These
casual rides promote solidarity among area cyclists and help demonstrate
our commitment to shared roadways. As always, we will obey all traffic
laws on the ride.

This month will take us on a tour of some of Washington DC's most
important theatres. Included in the tour will be the historic Ford's
Theatre and The Shakespeare Theatre. Over the past several months we
have used the ride to promote solidarity between pedestrians and
cyclists and to celebrate El-Nino.

We are already planning the April 24th Solidarity Ride. It will take us
on a tour of Washington DC's Most Bike Friendly Buildings. DC's Most
Bike Friendly Building is a contest being held by the DCBCA and the
Washington Area Bicycle Association (WABA) to reward those work places
and employers who accommodate and contribute to bicyclists in the work
environment. Awards will be given in two categories: bicycle commuter
friendly and bicycle courier friendly. These awards will be presented at
Washington DC's Bike-to-Work Day celebration, April 22nd, 1998.

The District of Columbia Bicycle Courier Association, with help form
Timbuk2 Designs, will host the 6th annual Cycle Messenger World
Championships in Washington DC in September 1998, where the city's
fastest messenger, Chris Schmidt will lead the hometown hopefuls against
the best bicycle messengers in the world. The DCBCA is a non-profit
association that works with the concerns of bicycle couriers in
Washington DC.
