| Cycle Messenger World Championships
CMWC 98 : hosted by the DCBCA 1220 L St. NW #100-399 Washington, DC 20005 202.265.4247 http://www.dccourier.com To the international members of the press corps: The District of Columbia Bicycle Courier Association (DCBCA) is a non-profit organization of dedicated cycle messengers who have undertaken the realization of the sixth annual Cycle Messenger World Championships (CMWC) in the nation's capital of Washington, DC. Over the Labor Day Weekend of September 4-7, 1998, 700-1000 messengers from around the world will converge on the nation's capital to decide the elite of the cycle messenger world community in a series of unique athletic competitions. Since 1993 the CMWC has gathered in Berlin, London, Toronto, San Francisco and Barcelona respectively, to compete and celebrate the world wide community of cycle messengers and the many countries and cultures it spans. Racers traveled to Barcelona this year from as far away as Tokyo, Budapest, Vancouver, Helsinki and Sydney, Australia. Competition has always been fierce, with powerful teams from Germany, Switzerland and Denmark earning a lopsided share of podium spots over the years, and upstart loners battling to edge them out. Defending European and World Champion Lars Urban of Bremen, Germany has announced his retirement and the scramble is on for a new champion. We invite you to join us at the 1998 Cycle Messenger World Championships September 4-7 in Washington, DC, when cycle messengers from all over the world will converge on the nation's capital to celebrate one of the most enigmatic aspects of modern business: human powered delivery of information thrown in the teeth of advancing technology. It's beyond a race; it's an urban rodeo conducted on two-wheeled charges set against the backdrop of one of the world's most powerful cities. It's beyond an event; it's lean men and women competing for the honor of being the world's fastest cycle messenger in a venue which simulates the power and excitement of their everyday working world. It is a world-class international championship. We invite your curiosity. For more information contact: Rebecca L. Reilly; Media Liaison
