CMWC 98 hosted by the DCBCA 1220 L St NW#100-399 Washington DC 20005 202-265-4247 http://www.dccourier.com Media Release:
July 3: The DCBCA (District of Columbia Bicycle Courier Association) is proud to announce the appointment of Rebecca Reilly to the board of the Urban Rangers. The Urban Rangers, funded by the DC Sports Commission, is an organization for at-risk youth in Adams Morgan, Washington DC. Participants in the program work a designated number of hours of community service to earn a bike of their own. Work includes such tasks as picking up garbage in parks, beautifying planters and creating gardens. Katie Davis and Charlie McCormick, of City Bikes, who founded the organization, have just opened their Urban Rangers office in the basement of the 1st Church of Christian Scientists across Champlain St from City Bikes. Ms. Reilly, the media liaison for the DCBCA and the 6th annual Cycle Messenger World Championships, has sought to solidify the links between the DCBCA and various Washington organizations. The DCBCA will institute a program called "Bike Mentoring." In this program, DC's bike couriers will help kids learn how to maintain and safely ride bicycles, along with other useful bike skills. Many DC couriers live in and around Adam's Morgan and their day to day life experience is something they are anxious to share in the one-on-one relationship that Bike Mentoring would provide. The DCBCA is a non-profit corporation founded with the intent of fostering comraderie amongst bicycle couriers and the communities they serve. It also aims to promote higher business standards in the bicycle messenger industry and finally, to host the 1998 CMWC (Cycle Messenger World Championships). Andy Zalan
