Re: [Messengers]Bicycles allow UPS to cover more ground

Body

UPS being the selftitled "Tightest Ship in the Shipping business"! takes care of it's own here. There is a story of

guys getting sent home because they had white socks, somehow I don't see them "farming their work out".

No UPS Bikes here yet, although we have almost convinced a purolater driver to bring his bike downtown, "to

get more coffee time".

Funny how this all came up as we were drilling him with it yesterday...

Jean I know a couple of Loomis drivers that will give me some work, but it comes out of the drivers pocket and

not Mayne Nichols

Purolater farms out their sameday stuff here, it's a $130,000 conrtract. Dynamex does it. that would have me

busting my ass with a bunch of guys, contract comes up every May. Thats a hell of a commute for you though

eh!!!

Seasons Greetings

Now that bicycling is getting more attention with the UPS brown

riding in traffic how will the teamsters union provide medical

and benefits if a part-timer get's hit?

Does the union have in it's contract provisions to aid the part-

timers with methods to file greviences on working conditions?

Will UPS allow Professional Bicycle messengers to deliver UPS

packages instead of UPS drivers or UPS bicycle riders at a rate

below the agreed union contract for pay per hour/piece?

What is the minium acceptable rate of deliveries per hour for a

bicycle rider to deliver UPS envelopes?

Are the UPS riders required to bid for the route just like

drivers for the same route?

Can we make money as independent bicycle messengers from UPS

because we arn't in a union and will work for a diffrent set of

rules? Our own rules?
