[Messengers]messengers, suits, and being cool....

Speaking of becoming a suit, (it was Fish who inspired me), I decided one

Friday I was going to wear a Jacket and Tie to work, as my version of casual

Friday. I meant it as a joke (and still do) but I got such overwhelming

response from it (now every Thursday all my clients start asking me what

I'll be wearing tomorrow) that it's become a tradition at our company, and

now we all were suits on "casual Friday" (it's not mandatory but almost

every Friday most of the guys participate). So I guess I think I'm so

fucking cool cause I'm a courier in a suit. It also makes me laugh when

someone compliments me on how good I look, and I chuckle and reply "ya, I

picked up this fine set of threads at the Salvation Army for $6.98!!" (for

the jacket, shirt, and tie!!)

Most of my clients, and friends downtown that I would never think of as a

"suit" (even though they have to wear a tie to work) realize why I do it

("are you mocking us?" "yes, I am ;-)") and most of the people who I would

call a "suit" are usually too arrogant to realize I'm mocking them. Either

way suits me just fine (no pun intended) I can have some fun (at their

expense, but in a goodhearted way...sorry Bob) and they all seem to like it

too. And yes I think some of the suits are a little jealous when they see

that I can dress just like them if I feel like it, but they can't dress like

me even if they want to.

Some of my favorite comments while messing in a suit:

"you bring so many smiles to so many people dressed like that" -Lady in

elevator

"Are you a courier???" -from a Rookie courier

"Casual Friday??? That's not casual???" -from a "suit"

"I love your sense of humor?" -from a client

"Oh, they're on the 29th floor" -from the Nazi security guard who normally

makes messengers ride the freight elevator
