*If you do
not understand any of these rules please ask a race official for clarification.
GENERAL
All racers must wear a helmet and be sober in order to
compete. If you are not racing, stay
off of the course, in the designated spectator areas. Pushing, shoving, dangerous riding or otherwise discourteous
behavior will not be tolerated and will result in disqualification. Checkpoint volunteers must be treated with
courtesy and respect at all times. Be
nice to everybody. J! All rulings made by Race or Checkpoint
Captains are final.
DCBCA MAIN RACE
CHECKPOINT SPONSORS: CITY BIKES,
TIMBUK2, SILVER LINING GRAPHICS, CANNONDALE, JAMIS, BIANCHI, GITA SPORTS, FOGGY
BOTTOM ALE, LATERAL STRESS VELO, AND CMWC 2003 SEATTLE.
The course will be made up of one-way
streets as indicated on the race map.
Riders may travel along the course only in the direction indicated. Riding the wrong way on the course will
result in disqualification. If you drop
your manifest, package, etc., continue along the course and retrieve it next
time around. If you ride past a
checkpoint, keep going. Do not walk or
ride back! You will be
disqualified. In case of mechanical
problems, racers may accept tools, parts, and assistance from onlookers,
however all repairs must be made off of the course. Locking your bike will be
required at every checkpoint. Lean
locking will be permitted. Look out for
bike thieves! Packages will not be
accepted if they are folded, crumpled, wet or damaged in any way. If a package is deemed unacceptable you will
have to return to the pick-up checkpoint and re-obtain it. You may only pick one package at a time, you
may deliver as many packages as you like per visit, and you may deliver and
pick-up at the same time. There may be
a “rush” delivery on certain manifests that must be delivered immediately: once
picked-up, no other pick-ups or deliveries will be allowed until the rush is
dropped. At certain checkpoints you may
be required to perform a task. Some waiting time may occur throughout the race,
please be patient until it is your turn. While all efforts will be made to
ensure accuracy, it is each individual racer’s responsibility to ensure that
checkpoint volunteers properly mark their manifest. To receive an official placing you must turn in your manifest
(completed or not) to the “Finish Table”.
The Finish Table should be considered a checkpoint, not a Finish
Line. Do not ride past the Finish Table
without turning in your manifest or else you will not receive a placement. Manifests must be submitted in good
condition with your name and number legibly written in the space provided. Men
and women will race together but will be scored separately.
Qualification: All racers will start Le Mans style at the
same time. You will be given 1 hour to
complete a manifest showing a series of pick-ups and deliveries. When
completed, turn in your manifest to the Finish Table. After 1 hour all of the
checkpoints will close after which you must turn in your manifest (complete or
not) to the Finish Table. You will have
15 minutes following the close of the checkpoints to get to the Finish Table.
It may be possible to qualify even with a partial manifest, so hurry back. Qualifying will based on both time and
number of deliveries.
Finals: All racers will start Le Mans style at the
same time. You will be given 2 1/2
hours to complete four separate manifests with specific and different
instructions on each. Read your
manifest carefully! Bikes must be
free-locked at start, and starting positions will be based on qualification
times. You must turn in each properly
completed manifest to the Manifest Exchange area to receive your next
manifest. Once time runs out, you must
go to the Finish Table and submit whichever manifest you are working on
(complete or not). You will have 5
minutes following the close of the checkpoints to get to the Finish Table. The
first rider to complete all 4 manifests, or the one who comes the closest based
on number of deliveries, will be declared champion.
CITY BIKES SPRINTS
Qualification: Sprint qualification will be the Rush
delivery given to all racers during Main Race qualifying. There will be a marked section on the course
after the City Bikes checkpoint on which riders’ top speed will be
measured. The fastest sprinters will
advance to the head-to-head elimination rounds.
Finals: Racers will be allowed 1 false start
per heat. A 2nd false start will result
in disqualification.
Jump your bike over the bar. Highest jumper wins. In the case of a tie (2 riders reaching the
same height) the winner will be the rider with the fewest faults.
The Cargo Race will involve carrying very large and heavy
loads. There will be 2 different kinds
of packages: small-heavy and large-light.
All packages will be picked up from and delivered to one central
checkpoint near the Start/Finish area.
After each pick-up riders must do a lap of the course, return to the
Start/Finish and drop off their packages before picking up again. The initial pick-up will be a pre-determined
number of the small-heavies, after which riders must alternate package types
but will be allowed to pick up as many packages as they can manage. The racer with the most number of deliveries
within the 45-minute time limit will be declared champion.
TIMBUK2 TEAM RELAY
Teams must be co-ed and consist of 4
racers. Riders will start from and hand
off packages in a designated exchange area at the Timbuk2 checkpoint. There will be 4 packages that must be picked
up individually from the Cannondale checkpoint. Only 1 rider per team will be on the course at a time. The first riders must pick-up from the
Cannondale checkpoint and return the package to the second rider. This rider will then pick-up the second
package and return both packages to the third rider. This will continue until the forth rider has picked up the final
package and has carried all four packages to the finish. First team to return all 4 packages to the
finish will be declared the champions.
The Fixed Gear Omnium will be decided by points from all
events, both fixed gear only and open events. A fixie rider must use a fixed
gear bike in any given event for that event to count towards their total Fixie
score. In the open events, fixed gear
bikes may have hand brakes. In fixed gear only events, brakes must be
disengaged or not present at all. The fixie rider who accumulates the most
points across all events will be declared Fixed Gear Champion.
TRACK STAND
Riders will balance in place with both hands on their
handlebars and both feet on their pedals.
Once a rider looses their balance they will be eliminated. At the 2-minute mark riders must remove one
hand. At the 4-minute mark riders must
remove their other hand. At the
6-minute mark riders must remove one foot.
The last rider balancing will be declared champion.
Each rider gets 3 attempts to do as many backwards
circles as possible. Most circles wins.
TRACK SKID
Ride up to the Start Line, lock your rear wheel and
skid as far as you can. Each rider will
get 3 attempts. Failure to lock up your
wheel before the Start Line will result in a fault. A fault will be considered an attempt. Longest single skid wins.
